Ruins of the Cook Bank, said to be the most photographed ruin in Nevada. Mr. Cook came from Goldfield, Nevada to Rhyolite to open a new branch of his bank. This one cost him over $90,000, and was the largest building in Rhyolite. It featured marble floors imported from Italy, mahogany woodwork, electric lights, telephone and inside plumbing. The First Rhyolite National Bank bought the Cook Bank and took over the first floor. The Post Office was in the basement and operated there until 1919. It was the last business to close in Rhyolite. It was tough for the Post Office, because First Rhyolite National was selling parts of the Cook Bank Building in 1910.
