jlsphotography > Joshua Trees only actually grow in one half of Joshua Tree National Park. The park consists of both the Mojave (high) desert and Colorado (low) desert. Joshua trees grow in the Mojave.

jlsphotography > The remains of the Lost Horse Mine. This stampmill is about all that's left, aside from a few cyanide tanks. The mine was staked by a man named Johnny Lang, who was out looking for his horse which had been stolen by Jim McHaney. On his way back to his camp he met an old prospector who told him he had discovered gold, but McHaney's cowboys were preventing him from staking his claim monuments. Lang inspected the site and ended up purchasing the claim for $1000. He and his father took on partners and staked the Lost Horse Mine in December of 1893. It operated until 1936.
